The Biome

Image
Summary: During this week, our class had to do a project on a biome. My team (which was really only two people because our third person was sick) chose the hot & dry desert biome. We had to make a website or an 'online product' about our selected biome. In this case, it was the desert biome. What I learned was how humans had a pretty big impact on the desert-and not in a good way. I also learned lots of interesting stuff about the desert, like how much water it gets a year. Before, I never really considered the desert like this. Most of my thoughts were just that it was too warm for my liking. That was it. Now, because our team did the desert biome, I realize that it's a very fragile biome.  Backward-Looking: What I knew about the desert before we started this project was that it was too warm, got little rain, and had barely any resources to sustain human life there. I also knew that many reptiles happened to live there because they were cold-blooded and depend

MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE

M ESSAGE IN A B OTTLE  Summary:  During this week, Ms. J. announced that we would be doing a project on ocean currents. The project was called 'Message in a Bottle'. The idea of the project was that some mysterious family put a message into a bottle and threw it into the ocean where it landed somewhere around the world. Whoever got the family would map their route and then write a story. Backward-Looking: What I knew about the project was nothing really, so I guess what I would have to say would be about currents. I knew that currents were smaller bodies of water moving in a particular direction. I also knew that currents were rivers in the oceans and that they served as a type of ocean travel for the animals of the ocean. Currents would carry small animals, like maybe a young fish or krill or plankton. Inward-Looking: I feel proud of my work because I felt like I put a lot of time on making the map with the currents & route my bottle took. I also feel proud beca

Summary: During this week, I learned that wind is the most effective when it comes to transporting toxic waste. I have learned about the ocean is that it covers more than three-quarters of the world. I also learned that currents are moving water in the ocean. Another thing that I learned was that when the heat from the sun evaporates the water in the ocean, it leaves only the salt behind. I also know that ocean currents are caused by wind and the amount of salt in the water. Another thing I've learned is that warm air holds more heat than warm water and that water with a large amount of salt is heavier than water that does not have as much salt. Other things that I know about the ocean are that thermohaline currents are warm and salty ocean currents. I've also learned that fish depend on moving water (currents) for food. The ocean is so important for the planet because many animals rely on it for food. It also is the largest ecosystem in the world. (i. e. a fish munches on a
